Hoewel de magie van de originele Harry Potter franchise zo goed als uitgedoofd is sinds de release van de achtste en laatste film, lijkt het er op dat Warner Bros. Discovery werkt aan een Harry Potter reboot… ten minste als we een anonieme bron moeten geloven.
Het gerucht begon eerder deze maand, toen de anonieme auteur en gevestigde info-leaker WDW Pro tweette dat de fantasiefranchise naar verluidt aan een reboot toe was.

WBD is reportedly looking to reboot the Harry Potter film franchise, including recasting, in the next 3-5 years.

WDW Pro verscheen de volgende dag naast entertainment YouTuber Valliant Renegade om meer in detail te geven, en hoewel hij benadrukte dat dit op dit moment allemaal nog speculatie is, wordt het concept naar verluidt “vurig besproken” bij Warner Bros. Discovery. Hij zei:
“It now seems extremely likely that the Harry Potter universe, which I think internally is called The Wizarding Division, is receiving a reboot in the future in terms of the movies. And that may also include recasting some of the roles that have become iconic inside the Harry Potter universe with the major actors and characters…We’re not talking about Fantastic Beasts. We’re not talking about some of these ancillary Harry Potter things. We’re talking about what is referred to inside the industry as ‘core Harry Potter.'”
Sinds de release van Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two in 2011 zijn er een paar pogingen gedaan om de franchise uit de dood te doen herleven, waaronder verschillende prequels van Fantastic Beasts en Where to Find Them. Maar geen van de pogingen is in de buurt gekomen van het vastleggen van de magie van de originele serie.
Met het ouder worden van de fanbase beweert deze anonieme bron dat WBD zich terdege bewust is van de noodzaak van een goede Harry Potter reboot. WDW Pro zei:
“…I mean it’s a dormant franchise, and that’s particularly why we are being told that in the next three to five years they are looking to reboot this thing…Because they have not been able to get the other stuff, these sort of secondary things off the ground and gain that momentum they had with the originals, the thinking that they have is that it’s time for Hollywood to get over this fear of casting, so they’re ready to do that.”

De Harry Potter films trokken in Nederland in tien jaar tijd bijna twaalf miljoen bezoekers in de bioscoop. Vier regisseurs werkten aan de reeks, namelijk Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell en David Yates.
Tientallen acteurs uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland speelden personages uit de Harry Potter-filmserie gebaseerd op de boekenreeks van J. K. Rowling. In alle films speelde Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potter, Rupert Grint speelde Ron Weasley en Emma Watson speelde Hermione Granger. Daarnaast waren er rollen voor acteurs als Helena Bonham Carter, Jim Broadbent, John Cleese, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Brendan Gleeson, Richard Harris, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Helen McCrory, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, Imelda Staunton, David Thewlis, Emma Thompson en Julie Walters.
